FAQ
How do Pre-orders Work?
We now offer pre-orders to customers. The stock will become available after February 15th, please select a pre-order date on the checkout page for when you would like your potatoes shipped to you. You will be charged on the purchase date, then the purchase will be shipped to you on the date you selected.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECIEVE MY ORDER OF SEED POTATOES?
We try and ship orders out everyday before 3:45 pm. Three days is the longest we process and ship an order. We ship USPS Priority Mail. Sometimes we get busy farming, but we always keep our 1-3 day window. Additionally, we sometimes wait a day to ship if the temperature is extraordinarily cold. For orders made early in the year we may use insulated boxes to protect the seed since we ship out of Montana.
WHERE DOES JOHNNY POTATO SEED SHIP TO?
United States of America only. We are NOT shipping internationally.
WHAT ARE CERTIFIED SEED POTATOES?
Seed certification is a quality control program. It is a state issue in the United States and federal issue in Canada. 15 States produce certified seed potatoes. Each state has different standards, rules, and nomenclature regarding quality and a different authoritative body that determines what constitutes “certified seed” in the state. Montana has some of the most intense and rigorous standards in the industry.
WHAT ARE SINGLE-DROP SEED POTATOES?
Size selected spuds to negate the need to cut your seed. These are intended to be planted as whole tubers. This is European style seed—lots of farmers seek out single drop seed because it gives a grower the best chance at a healthy plant, free of disease.
WHAT IS THE DELIVERY COST OF MY SEED POTATOES?
Free... we factored the cost in to the price of the potato seed. We use Pirateship.com to get USPS discounts. We recycle egg cartons and use Uline shipping supplies to minimize costs and ecological impact, passing the savings on to you. This also lets us combine your orders instead of being charged shipping for each item.
WHEN CAN I ORDER?
Order now! We'll ship them immediately during the season, or when your pre-order is requested. We run out of certain varieties as Spring moves forward. We will also stop selling seed potatoes around the end of May or as soon as we run out of seed stock.
WHY IS MONTANA THE BEST STATE FOR SEED POTATOES?
A litany of reasons. First, the growers. You won't meet a better group of farmers who care about the quality of what they produce. They take pride in everything they do and are some of the best stewards of the land. The Montana growers are integral to the potato industry in North America. Second, the Montana advantage. This state is one big seed potato exclusivity zone, with short summers, cold winters, and a high altitude that produces a vigor in a seed tuber to always perform. Third, is the certification program. Montana has three summer inspections, a winter grow out in Hawaii, a shipping point assessment, and all these seed tubers originated as early generation meristematic seed stock originating in a greenhouse.
WHAT IS THE REFUND AND RETURN POLICY?
If you are not completely satisfied with your seed potatoes for any reason, please return them to us for a full refund or a replacement of your choice. Please let us know at Johnny Potato Seed the issue, and we will get it solved.
